Not Looking at My Phone

I don't know if this is cultural, generational, or kind of both, but now that I'm working directly with other people I've noticed another thing -- when they, my coworkers, who are 50+, get a text or phone notification they seem to have a compulsion to immediately check it. It happens not infrequently (about once every 15-20 minutes for each of them), and we are on a sort of bottling assembly line when this is happening, where their taking a moment to look at their phone causes a three-person work stoppage. As a millenial (sort of, '82 is just on the cusp and we 80-82ers reserve the right to sometimes deny being millenials), my early working years were full of employers expressing their strong displeasure if we were caught looking at our phones and we learned not to do it at work -- at least while anyone is looking ;)
I hypothesize that these older coworkers only comparatively more recently started getting regular phone notifications and by then already didn't have a direct supervisor breathing down their neck to glare at them over looking at their phone.
I too get phone notifications almost as frequently as them, and my coworkers have actually asked me "aren't you going to see what that was?" and the answer is no if it can't wait until after work they'll either call me or blow up my phone (actually I did have a friend call me, and I ignored that too, but then thought hey wait she wouldn't call me during working hours if it wasn't an emergency so I called her back and indeed she was in tears over some shenanigans).

Also on the subject of phone notifications though, about four phones ago I had a sonar ping sound for a notification on my phone and I really miss it, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get a sonar ping notification sound on my phone now, if anyone knows the dark magic of these things.
